Many of the young adults today can point to author John Green for getting them through some tough times as teenagers, thanks to his raw, relatable and inviting storytelling. And now, thanks to Hannah Marks, that storytelling has been transformed onto the screen, this time telling the story of Aza Holmes in Turtles All the Way Down.
Aza, who on the surface seems like a typical teenager, struggles with obsessive thoughts to the point that often becomes overwhelming. The film beautifully depicts the journey of self-discovery, the importance of realizing that everyone around you is going through something and that a little bit of kindness is never a bad thing.
